Artist Statement: When observing the environment that humans have built, it is interesting to see the influence of nature on design and structure. Sometimes architectural design is delicate yet strong and reflective of nature. Other times a building's design will convey the physical weight of the stone composing the structure. I thought of the weight of the materials, when photographing IM Pei's East Wing of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. I liked the way the lights of the night sky reflected from surfaces of the building, enhancing the geometric design of its composition.
