Chris Faust is a fine art photographer based in St. Paul, Minnesota. He has received numerous fellowships, including a Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship, a Bush Fellowship, a Minnesota Humanities Commission, two Graham Foundation Fellowships, and a McKnight Foundation Fellowship for Photography. His award-winning images are found in collections such as the Center for Photography in Woodstock, New York; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and the Walker Art Center along with numerous private collections throughout the country. Faust’s work is widely exhibited and was most recently highlighted in the book Nocturnes, a collection of 70 of his night photographs published by the University of Minnesota Press in May 2007.

Artist’s Statement
The way that people use private and public landscapes reflects differences in local cultures and marks history. Landscapes are constantly changing which has given an urgency to my need to document this change and record the decisive moment. Common subjects that anyone can see on any given day, revealed in an uncommon way, will remain my particular aspiration. This photograph is from the collection Rural Scenes and was taken in Williston, North Dakota. This ongoing collection represents my dialogue with landscape, both natural and cultural.
