Joseph Jurson

Born in Detroit in 1957, Joseph Jurson studied Graphic Design and Photography and graduated in 1979 cum laude from the University of Michigan School of Art. Since leaving school, Jurson has made photography a constant and serious part of his life over the past 28 years. A resident of New York for almost all those years, Jurson finds particular inspiration in the familiar and well trod backyard paths of his South Salem garden as well as the unique locations he diligently pursues in his travels back and forth across the country and when overseas. His varied work experiences as a gardener, photographer’s assistant, art director, and film producer have been a continuing adjunct to the constant of nature photography.

Jurson’s work can be found in numerous public and private collections. He is represented in six fine art galleries across the country, including the Saret Gallery in Sonoma, California.

Artist’s Statement
"I am happily blessed with a drive to capture the beauty in nature and find expressions of eloquence to portray in my photography. I use nature as my subject matter because it is a powerful restorative and soothing force, which I return to again and again in the hope that I will find a way to communicate those feelings and inspire all those who see it within my work."
