Michael Vergason founded MVLA in 1987 and has maintained a small firm in order to retain personal involvement in projects, ensuring each site is designed and executed with care and skill. His sketch work is an essential component of his design process, defining and enlivening the MVLA studio. Vergason’s design education in both architecture and landscape architecture defines his remarkable ability to balance and enhance the intersection between natural and built systems. His work shows a particular sensitivity to site and context, careful consideration of historic significance, and a distinctly contemporary vision.
He has lectured at numerous institutions including the University of Virginia, Harvard University, and Dumbarton Oaks. He is a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome and a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Michael received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Master of Landscape Architecture at the University of Virginia.
