Alan Ward, a Principal at Sasaki Associates, is a landscape architect, urban designer, and photographer. His photographs have appeared in more than 150 books and magazines, including his own books American Designed Landscapes and Miller Garden: Icon of Modernism. He was a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome in 2002 and 2006.

Artist’s Statement
"This is a photograph of the Summer Palace in Beijing printed on watercolor paper from a scan of an original 2 1/4” x 6 1/2” panoramic negative. This photograph was taken while in Beijing working on the Master Plan for the 2008 Olympic Games."
