A native of Hamilton, Ohio, Carol Henry attended the University of Cincinnati, School of Design, Art and Architecture and has a BFA from Northern Michigan University in Marquette. Working as a fine artist for the past twenty years, Henry has mainly focused in the Cibachrome darkroom and has sold her one-of-a-kind imagery in many fine photography galleries. She describes the challenge of creating the perfect image in the darkroom, without the camera, as catching a snowflake on one's tongue: mostly fun, sometimes frustrating, with a reward that is truly a pleasure for the senses!
Artist Statement: This image is one of a series of kelp studies. My intention is to create a feeling of looking up through a kelp forest in the oceans, with a few simple elements in my darkroom. Collecting specimens from the beach to reveal the strength, structure and beauty of ocean plant life has added another dimension to the botanical studies I've worked on for many years. The rich amber color is truly primordial!
