Richard Sutton is Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where he teaches, design, plant materials, construction, and graphics. He sketches the countryside and city edge near Lincoln. His research focuses on native plant materials, rural landscapes, and landscape assessment. He has consulted on both public and private landscape projects in Nebraska and has been published in various scholarly journals and books.
Artist Statement: Painted at the edge of Lincoln, Nebraska, above the railroad suburb of Havelock, the scene depicts an image reminiscent of small towns in the Great Plains. This piece was included in the 2006 exhibit “Machine in the Garden” at the Great Plains Art Gallery in Lincoln.
