Alan Ward FASLA

Alan Ward, a Principal at Sasaki Associates, is a landscape architect, urban designer, and photographer. His photographs have appeared in more than 150 books and magazines, including American Designed Landscapes and Miller Garden: Icon of Modernism. He was a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome in 2002 and 2006.

Artist Statement: This photograph of the Roman Forum was taken from the base of Capitoline Hill on an early autumn morning. Passing through the center of the Forum, the Via Sacra was at the heart of ancient Rome. The street passes between the Palatine and Esquiline Hills extending to the distant Alban Hills, connecting the center of Rome to the surrounding landscape. Two thousand years later, the view through the arch remains remarkably similar.
