Pioneers of American Landscape Design
With generous support from the NEA, TCLF is pleased to announce the launch of the Pioneers of American Landscape Design Oral History modules for M. Paul Friedberg, Lawrence Halprin, and Robert Royston this year. Hear these revolutionary designers share their personal design philosophies as they tour their most iconic works.

City by the Sea
Garden Excursion
This two-day garden excursion will highlight the diverse cultural landscapes of Newport, Rhode Island. The tour will showcase the close relationship between land and sea with visits to the Newport Harbor aboard the yacht 'Rum Runner,' several private gardens, a working farm, and recreational landscapes that have made this 'City by the Sea' a haven for summer visitors. Attendance limited to thirty.

Heroes of Horticulture
Exhibit Opening
The Heroes of Horticulture exhibition of original photography will open at the Reynolda House Museum of American Art this summer. The exhibition, curated by George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film, includes 24 photographs commissioned by internationally-known artists.

Fifth Annual Silent Auction
ASLA Annual Meeting
TCLF will conduct its fifth annual Silent Auction in support of the Pioneers of American Landscape Design initiative at the 2009 meeting of the American Society of Landscape Architects in Chicago, Illinois. This year’s auction will again include sketches, paintings, photographs, books, clothing, garden furniture, and other ephemera executed by notable landscape architects and artists.

Shapers of the American Landscape
Landslide 2009
TCLF will highlight the 2009 Landslide selections: Shapers of the American Landscape, with the launch of an online feature, an exhibition of original, commissioned photography at George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film in Rochester, New York, and a series of signboard exhibits to be displayed across the country.

Pioneers of American Landscape Design
In conjunction with the University of Virginia Press, TCLF is pleased to announce the Fall release of Shaping the American Landscape: New Profiles From the Pioneers of American Landscape Design Project. As a follow-up to the Pioneers of American Landscape Design, the publication will include more than 150 new essays on the designers, planners, and scholars that have helped shaped the American landscape.

Pioneers of American Landscape Design Regional Symposia
In conjunction with the publication of Shaping the American Landscape: New Profiles From the Pioneers of American Landscape Design Project and with the support of our Presenting Sponsor Garden Design magazine, TCLF will be partnering with the New York Botanical Garden, Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the California Garden and Landscape History Society, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, and the Chicago Architecture Foundation to host a series of regional symposia exploring the influence of pioneering designers on today’s practitioners.

In order to raise public awareness of the breadth, diversity, and interconnectedness of our designed landscape heritage, with generous support from National Center for Preservation Technology and Training, TCLF will launch an online searchable database, illustrated with downloadable images of these remarkable landscapes.
