The Cultural Landscape Foundation’s (TCLF) is pleased to announce that a myriad events held in concert with this year’s American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Annual Meeting were a tremendous success, raising more than $100,000 for the Foundation’s educational programs. The meeting, which took place in San Francisco from October 5-9th, was the most well attended to date, with more than 6,800 registrants.
Event highlights include:
Donnell Gala Lunch
The sold-out Donnell Gala Lunch, sponsored by House & Garden magazine raised nearly $57,000 for TCLF’s educational programs. The leisurely afternoon included transportation to the iconic Sonoma, California, ranch where guests were treated to a sit-down lunch in the garden and a dip in the pool! Honored guests included Lawrence and Anna Halprin and the extended Donnell family. Attendees, which came from as far away as New Zealand, included Cornelia Oberlander, Rich Haag, Laurie Olin, Ken Smith, Pamela Burton, Mark Rios and others. Look to TCLF’s November e-letter for video interviews with many of these attendees who tell their personal stories of the garden. View Slide Show of Event
Silent Auction
In total, eighty-eight works by more than seventy artists were auctioned over two days. The auction space was well-placed within the conference center and the reaction to the breadth and diversity of the work was extremely positive. Preliminary estimates suggest that for this third annual Silent Auction, thanks to our contributors and bidders as well as our Presenting Sponsor, Longshadow, TCLF earned nearly $50,000.

Post-Auction Reception
The Post-Auction Reception, sponsored by Monrovia, was a wonderful way to close out the Silent Auction. The event drew several hundred attendees, including many of the contributing artists and TCLF Board members, while offering a final view of all of the donated artwork. TCLF was honored to have speakers Nancy Somerville, Executive Vice-President of ASLA; Bob Smiland, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for Monrovia; and Diane Turner, Publisher of Garden Design, in attendance. Closing Session
Monday’s Closing General Session opened with a lively interview of Lawrence Halprin by TCLF President, Charles Birnbaum. The half-hour interview, which began with a standing ovation the moment Mr. Halprin took the stage, included a discussion of Mr. Halprin’s long and prolific career and his thoughts on a wide-range of topics, including the preservation of some of his most famous designs and why landscape architects should draw.
