Register now to explore this stunning lakefront property designed by RKLA Studio Landscape Architecture, located in the western foothills of New York’s Catskill Mountains. Learn the secrets behind a landscape driven by collaboration between the landscape architect, architect, client, interior designer, general contractor, artists, and artisans. The tour will be led by Robin Key, founder of RKLA Studio Landscape Architecture, Naomi Drucker, Partner at RKLA Studio Landscape Architecture, Drew Lang and Jordi Biosca of Lang Architecture, and Interior Design firm Studio Nth.
The house and 1300-foot-long driveway are nestled into mature woodlands on a steeply sloped site with sweeping views of the lake. In one of the first steps of this project, an arborist was brought in to minimize tree removal by only removing dead or dying trees. This preserved the woodland views from the house, where large windows and a 40-foot-long accordion door line the lakeside living space.
Materials found on site were repurposed whenever possible. The spa is set within a bolder wall and incorporates rock seating that was sourced from the site during excavation. Additionally, the patio and façade of the house were supplemented with stone also found on site. Other site elements include an outdoor kitchen, swimming pool, fire pit, running trails, and boardwalks.
