Lawrence Halprin, a pre-eminent landscape architect
of the 20th century, is renowned as a designer, educator, and innovator.
Now, three exemplary works by Halprin are threatened by bulldozers and
neglect. These works include the sunken sculpture garden and fountain
at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (1976); Denver's unique linear
urban promenade, Skyline Park (1973); and possibly the Bicentennial
project, Heritage Park (1976) in Fort Worth. These landscapes suffer
from poor maintenance that has led to demolition/redesign proposals at
these sites.
