HALPRIN: HERITAGE PLAZA

History
Heritage Park, located in downtown Ft. Worth, originated as a celebration of the Nation's Bicentennial in 1976 with a goal to incorporate more urban park/open space for residents in Ft. Worth. Heritage Plaza is part of the larger 112-acre Heritage Park that stretches along the Trinity River. The plaza is sited on a steep bluff where the West and Clear Forks of the Trinity River converge. It is just north of the Tarrant County Courthouse and just west of the Main Street Bridge. The site was selected due to its close proximity to the military post of Ft. Worth, established by Major Ripley Arnold in November of 1849. The bluff provided a clear view to the west and north for military purposes. This view along the Trinity River contributed to the selection of this site for Heritage Plaza.
