KILEY: CONCORDIA THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY

History
The landscapes of North Christian Church and of Concordia Theological Seminary by Dan Kiley reveal his philosophical commitment to modern design and his mastery of the art of landscape architecture. As collaborations between Kiley architect Eero Saarinen, these two Indiana masterworks illustrate their designers' conviction that design and life are inseparable. Their partnership was recognized in 2001 with National Historic Landmark recognition for its work in Columbus, IN, the highest national honor an American property can achieve. Elsewhere on this website the reader will learn that the Indiana Department of Transportation plans to widen a road that will destroy part of the Kiley's North Christian Church landscape. Of equal concern, a tornado recently devastated the Ft. Wayne, IN, Concordia campus which lost 779 of the trees that helped to define its significant spaces and visual relationships Help is needed to preserve North Christian Church's and Concordia Theological Seminary's notable Modernist landscapes.
