KILEY: CONCORDIA THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY

Threat
On May 26, 2001, a tornado struck the campus of Concordia Theological Seminary.

The seminary suffered a loss of 779 trees, most of the buildings on campus experienced roof and glass damage, and five homes were damaged. With the exception of a $100,000 deductible, insurance covered all of the costs of clean-up, building repair, and labor costs for clean up and repairs.

The insurance coverage does not include the cost of the trees, 66 percent of which will require replacement. The cost of replacing trees has been estimated to be $500-$1,000 per tree. The seminary is also responsible for any consulting and advisory assistance required to restore the park-like, serene quality to the campus that was intended in the Saarinen-Kiley plan.
