RIVER ROAD ESTATES

Threat
The proposed Louisville Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges project calls for construction of a multi-laned suburban bridge linking Louisville and southern Indiana. Within the unique and continuous landscapes of this National
Register district lie sixty one contributing buildings, sites and structures as well as archeological sites of religious or tribal significance to Native Americans. It presently is anticipated that the bridge will sever the unity of this exceptional cultural landscape treasure. The eastern bridge is under study in tandem with a new downtown bridge; the combined bridges project is the second largest Federal Highway Administration project to be started in the U.S. over the
next 10 years. The required Draft Environmental Impact Statement was issued on November 6, 2001. To make recorded comments for the project record, submit such comments to the Federal Highway Administration in Frankfort, KY, by February 25, 2002.
