Governmental Institution or Facility

Across the United States, landscaped grounds from town halls to the iconic U.S. Capitol reflect the democratic values and ideals of our country, and provide the settings for the buildings that house our civic functions: executive, legislative, and judicial.

Under the jurisdiction of the government, the infrastructure that provides citizens with the fundamental services to support daily life and commerce is created and maintained. The design of these facilities increasingly falls under the domain of landscape architecture and civil engineering. These sites include, but are not limited to, airports, railroad stations, parkways, water treatment plants, agricultural research stations, canal and lock systems, and such facilities as those built by the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Civilian Conservation Corps.
