Xavier D. Urrutia
Director, City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department


Xavier D. UrrutiaXavier D. Urrutia was appointed Director of Parks and Recreation in January 2009. As the director he oversees a department that maintains 238 City-owned parks including swimming pools, gymnasiums, cemeteries, sports facilities, recreation centers and the Botanical Garden and Conservatory. The department also operates several City recreational and cultural programs. Mr. Urrutia has worked for the City since 1996. His combined work experience has allowed him to serve in several leadership roles, most recently as the Assistant Director for Solid Management. Prior to that position he served as Acting Assistant Director for the Department of Community Initiatives. He has also held the positions of Fiscal Planning Manager, Acting Social Services Manager, and Sr. Management Analyst. Mr. Urrutia also has over ten years of experience in the private sector including work in the fields of telecommunications and public accounting. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a concentration in Accounting, from Trinity University. and is a member of Urban Management Assistants of South Texas. He is a native of San Antonio, Texas.
