Landslide 2022

The Cultural Landscape Foundation

This year’s Landslide, TCLF’s annual thematic report and digital exhibition about threatened and at-risk landscapes and landscape features, presents twelve diverse entries across North America—including parks, parkways, and park systems (at a city and state scale), subdivisions and residential enclaves, cultural and religious institutions, and city and regional plans— all designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr., the firm he founded, and its successor firms spanning more than a century. This year, 2022, is the bicentennial of Olmsted, Sr.’s, birth. It’s important to recognize that even though more than 200 Olmsted-designed landscapes are listed in the National Register of Historic Places, an Olmsted provenance does not always ensure protection. The intent of Landslide 2022 is to foster greater awareness and curiosity about the scope, scale, and richness of the Olmsted landscape legacy, and to encourage a stronger shared responsibility for its future.
