Imaginative / Adventure Playground
Combining sculptural forms with playground design to create new play environments. Influenced by innovative ideas originating in Europe, renowned sculptor Isamu Noguchi, working in the 1950s, was followed by M. Paul Friedberg, Richard Dattner, Cornelia Oberlander, Richard Haag, Robert Royston, and Garrett Eckbo in the 1960s and 70s. These playgrounds included linked spontaneous play experiences aimed at developing a child’s creative imagination, social ability, and physical health.
