Kiley Conversation with Charles Birnbaum and Raymond Jungles

Brooklyn, NY

ABC Stone will be hosting the critically acclaimed photographic exhibition The Landscape Architecture Legacy of Dan Kiley, organized and curated by The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF), January 18 – April 30, 2024. Kiley (1912-2004) was one of the nation’s most important postwar landscape architects, and the exhibition features dozens of newly commissioned photographs of 27 of Kiley’s more than 1,000 designs including: the Miller House and Garden, Columbus, IN; the Art Institute of Chicago South Garden, Chicago, IL; and one of his final residential projects, Patterns, a garden for Gov. & Mrs. Pierre S. “Pete” du Pont IV in Delaware. The exhibition also includes recently commissioned photographs of the Ford Foundation Atrium, the widely hailed rehabilitation of which was overseen by the landscape architect Raymond Jungles. The Landscape Architecture Legacy of Dan Kiley will be on view at The Exhibition Space @ ABC Stone (189 Banker Street Brooklyn, N.Y. 11222), January 18 – April 30, 2024. The exhibition is free and open by appointment (Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM ET).

“The Landscape Architecture Legacy of Dan Kiley … shows how modern landscapes often make a better case for modernism than the architecture itself.”

– Wall Street Journal

An opening reception will be held on January 18 and will include a conversation between the exhibition’s co-curator, Charles A. Birnbaum, TCLF’s President and CEO, and Raymond Jungles. Using Jungles' work at the Ford Foundation Atrium as a case study, the two will discuss the history and design of Kiley's robust body of work, the challenges surrounding being a steward of his work and the ongoing efforts to honor Kiley's legacy.

While registration is free, there is a suggested donation amount of $20 to support TCLF's ongoing education and advocacy efforts.

Please note: the evening will begin at 234 Banker Street for refreshments and the discussion, then continue to 189 Banker Street to view the exhibition.

1.0 LA CES™ professional development hours will be available to attendees, pending approval.
