Biff Sturgess, ASLA
For the past 20-plus years, Biff has has worked on a broad range of landscape architecture projects with site budgets ranging from $150K to $300M. He returned to Hocker in 2013 as a partner following a stint of time focused on large scale urban projects and aiming to grow this type of work with the studio. Growing up in a farming/ranching family in the Texas Panhandle, Biff developed an early appreciation for horticulture, planting techniques, and the importance of water to the landscape. He relies on that foundation and strong understandings of design and business to influence a successful outcome in every project that Hocker undertakes. The blurring of lines between landscape architecture and urban design and the coupling of these closely related fields is revealed in the projects in which he is involved. Biff has taught graduate level courses in landscape architecture, focusing on landscape ecology and design.
