At the confluence of landscape architecture, ecology, and water management is Point Breeze Ranch, a resilient retreat tucked away in the Texas Hill Country. Join The Cultural Landscape Foundation and Christy Ten Eyck, President of Ten Eyck Landscape Architects (TELA), for an exclusive tour of this exceptional and captivating residence.

Collaborating with the owners and architect Candid Rogers, TELA crafted a landscape that seamlessly integrates this multigenerational ranch with its hillside setting. The contemporary ranch house and two standalone casitas were carefully positioned within the landscape to capture expansive western views while preserving mature trees rooted in the limestone-rich terrain.

The tour will begin at the auto court, shaded by heritage oaks, that leads to an extended stone entry path and a courtyard enclosed by a limestone wall. More than an architectural feature, the wall manages stormwater, channeling runoff from the east into an arroyo. Planted with Little Bluestem and Indian Grass, the arroyo slows and absorbs rainfall while protecting the home from flash flooding.

Journeying behind the main house, a life-size bronze equine sculpture by artist Deborah Butterfield, flanked by groups of lounge seating on the covered back patio, directs the visitor’s gaze to the rolling meadows beyond.

The home's central axis extends toward a sleek infinity pool, fed by a gentle stream from a narrow, stone water trough. Built into a hillside and jutting beyond the Texas limestone pool deck, the design leverages the site's natural slope to provide uninterrupted views of the tranquil valley.
